Downsize Michigan is a Michigan-based resource and referral platform created to support older adults and families navigating downsizing and life transitions.
Founded by professionals with deep experience in senior-focused real estate and estate-related transitions, Downsize Michigan was built in response to a growing need for clear, unbiased guidance during complex moments of change.
We believe families deserve access to trusted information, compassionate support, and experienced service providers without pressure or confusion. While we are a for-profit organization, our mission is rooted in education, transparency, and connection.
Our role is to help families understand their options and confidently assemble the right team for their unique situation.

When Housing Is Part of the Decision
For many families, downsizing includes decisions about selling, buying, or transitioning to a different living environment. Over time, we found ourselves naturally drawn to working with older adults and their families, not because of the transactions, but because of the relationships.
As our work evolved, it became clear that helping seniors was about far more than real estate. Families needed guidance with estate planning resources, organizing, repairs and remodeling, trusted contractors, financial considerations, and support navigating emotionally complex decisions. Real estate was often just one piece of a much larger puzzle.
Downsize Michigan was built in response to that realization. What began as a real estate-focused service grew into a broader resource designed to support the senior community in a more complete and thoughtful way.
When housing is part of the transition, Downsize Michigan provides referrals to experienced real estate professionals who understand the unique considerations involved in downsizing and senior-focused moves. Whenever possible, we prioritize referrals to agents who hold the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation, reflecting additional training in working with older adults and their families during times of change.
Lindsey Sundin and Matt Demorest are the founders of Downsize Michigan and are both Seniors Real Estate Specialists (SRES). They are among the professionals available for referral, though families are never required to work with a specific agent and may choose any real estate professional that best fits their needs.
